Garrison Diversion Awards $86,227 in Matching Recreation Grants

CARRINGTON, ND (May 15, 2017) – The Garrison Diversion Conservancy District’s Recreation Committee recently awarded matching recreation grants to 14 projects totaling $86,227. Projects varied from developing a walking trail to installing playground equipment.

The following applicants received grant approval from the committee:
• City of Valley City – $6,457 to develop Phase II of the Hi-Line Prairie Gardens & Orchard
• Cass County Park Board - $3,263 for improvements to the Brewer Lake Campground
• Cass County - $15,686 for improvements and upgrades at the Red River Valley Fair Campground
• Grand Forks Parks & Recreation - $8,750 to develop the Altru Wellness Village Playground; $5,175 for the construction of the Ryan Lake Playground
• McHenry County Park Board - $2,500 for the construction of two picnic shelters at the Buffalo Lodge County Park
• Garrison Parks & Rec - $10,000 to construct restrooms at the Garrison City Park
• McVille Park Board - $1,500 to develop a Frisbee golf course at the McVille Dam
• Ransom County Water Resource District - $6,996 for electrical upgrades and improvements at the Dead Colt Creek Recreation Area
• Sargent County Park Board - $1,275 for water and electric hookups at the Silver Lake Recreation Area
• Mayville Park Board - $13,500 to rejuvenate the Mayville Nature Trail
• Ward County Park Board - $2,625 for outdoor exercise equipment for the Minot Fitness Trail; $3,000 to install a walking bridge at Old Settlers Park
• Hurdsfield Park Board - $5,500 for playground equipment at the Hurdsfield City Park

“The matching recreation grant program has been very successful in giving back to our communities,” said Bill Krivarchka, Recreation Committee Chairman. “We are proud of our efforts in assisting communities with enhancing their recreational offerings to benefit residents and visitors.”

Garrison Diversion dedicates two-tenths of its one-mill levy to the matching recreation grant program to qualifying projects within the 28-county district. The Recreation Committee meets every spring and fall to consider applications. The next deadline for recreation grant applications is September 1, 2017.
